Web Directories of Health Resources on the Internet Image
Health-related web directories are an excellent way to locate evaluated information on the Internet. A directory contains active links to health information and resources. A good directory will: 1. Be maintained by professionals in that area. 2. Post the site's policy and procedures for link choices and update and 3. Annotate the links.

Sites are chosen on the basis of accuracy, depth of information, currency and over all usefulness.

It is produced by National Library of Medicine, provides access to extensive information about specific diseases, conditions and pharmaceutical drugs. Highly recommended as a starting point on any health issue.

It has health information for the whole family. It includes health topics for kids, men, women and seniors. It also includes drugs information.

This outstanding consumer health site is easy to navigate. Content is available in both English and Spanish. The is a project of the New York Public Library partnering with other health organizations.

Healthfinder is a searchable directory developed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Leads to selected online publications, web sites for organizations, support groups, self-help associations and government agencies.

KidsHealth provides doctor-approved health information about children from before birth through adolescence. Created by The Nemours Foundation's Center for Children's Health Media, the site provides families with accurate, up-to-date, and jargon-free health information they can use.

This is the official site of Center for Disease Control and Prevention. It has latest information on disease outbreak, travelers’ health, workplace safety and health, envitonmental health, emergency preparedness and response and healthy living.


Cancer Resources on the Internet Image
These Internet sites are recommended by the ValleyCare Health Library and Ryan Comer Cancer Resource Center as an excellent starting point.

American Cancer Society
A non-profit organization working with cancer patients and family members, the ACS maintains an easy to use web site. Included are many of its information pamphlets on cancers, links to other cancer web sites, specialized sections devoted to topics such as breast cancer and access to support groups sponsored by ACS. National ACS site provides links to local ACS branches with web sites.

PDQ – National Cancer Institute’s Comprehensive Cancer Database
An excellent government site managed by the National Cancer Institute. Includes extensive information with an easy to use table of contents. An important feature is PDQ, the authoritative NCI cancer database of treatment procedures, information on new or investigational drugs and clinical trials. Much of the material is also available in Spanish.

The National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship
Founded in1986, NCCS web site is a valuable resource for survivorship issues and advocacy. The web site features a comprehensive annotated list of other cancer sites with links. Sections on caregiving, news items, and other helpful hints for living and coping with cancer are available.

Hospice Net
An excellent source of information on end of life issues. Provides help for finding hospice in local areas.

Noah (New York Online Access to Health)
Provides extensive, evaluated links to other Internet sites. Easy to browse menu under cancer leads to topics that include specific types of cancer, treatment options and clinical trial information. Information is also available in Spanish.

This is a comprehensive, authoritative web site, which includes excellent reference material, links to evaluated web sites, recommended reading lists and clinical trial information.

People Living with Cancer (PLWC)
PLWC is the American Society of Clinical Oncologist’s website providing timely, oncologist approved information to help patients and families make informed health care decisions. Patients can ask questions online.
